The Hyspedes League

 

 

The Hyspedes League is an odd cluster of twenty-six small principalities and city-states, located right in the heart of the Keller Lands. Most of the states are ruled by hereditary princes, others are republics, and a few are military dictatorships. All of the states of the Hyspedes League are intensively militarized, fortified against foreign invasion and war with each other. Any single city-state would be a major task to defeat, even for the large kingdoms that surround the Hyspedes League. To make matters worse, each of the cities of the Hyspedes League is a “high-mana” area. The militaries of the league make extensive use of golems, enchanted weaponry, and large-scale war magic. Since they are unified by treaty, an attack against one would quickly draw retaliation by most of the Hyspedes League. The Hyspedes League maintains good relationships with Verdil Isle as a whole, but suffers from a great deal of foreign interference in its internal politics. The potential power of a unified League means that neighboring states have a vested interest in keeping them both divided against each other, and if possible, aligned to one faction or another.
